Incident: Man Arrested for Two Smithtown Robberies
Location: Smithtown
Date/Time: January 27, 2010 at approximately 5 p.m.


Suffolk County Police have arrested a Brentwood man for two separate robberies that occurred earlier this week in Smithtown.

Three teens were confronted by four males on a wooded path near Route 111 and Woodhollow Road in Smithtown. The males displayed a handgun and demanded cell phones and cash from the victims on January 26, 2010 at 1:15 p.m. A short time later, two teens were skateboarding on Ledgewood Drive in Smithtown when they were confronted by three males who demanded the teens’ iPods. One teen was assaulted.

An investigation led to the arrest of Xavier Pinero, 20, of 44 Helmig St., Brentwood, on January 27, 2010 at approximately 5 p.m. Fourth Squad detectives charged Pinero with one count of Robbery 1st Degree and one count of Robbery 2nd Degree. Pinero is scheduled to be arraigned today in First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding these incidents to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
